In practice, it's not turning out to be that big of a deal. My biggest reservation prior to buying the scanner was that it did not have motorized feeder mechanism-you have to push the film strip holder by hand. I like that it's got six or seven different 'sharpen' settings (including USM with the three value sliders), not just a generic 'sharpen' function. I tried SilverFast 6.6 before upgrading to 8, and the new version's interface is soooo much nicer. I've tried to download an update (having registered silverfast upon installing it) and the website says my serial number on the CD sleeve is not valid or already registered. The Silverfast disk says 'SE' on it and the sleeve has 'SilverFast SE 6 serial number for Perfection V700 Photo' on the top above the serial number. In oter words there isn't a command to import anything relating to the scanner. I've installed the Silverfast program that came with the machine and am not able to pull-up an 'import' command within Photoshop (CS). I just recently purchased a Epson v700 flatbed scanner.
